Former World no 1 and sixteen grand slam winner Roger Federer will be the part of Swiss team that play the Davis Cup tie against Portugal next week in Berne,Switzerland.

On his official website Federer said "I've decided I'm going to play the Davis Cup tie in July at home against Portugal. I'm really looking forward to helping Switzerland begin the process of getting back into the World Group ".

The Swiss team will compete in Europe/Africa Group I after suffering a 0-5 loss to Kazakhstan in last year’s World Group play-offs. They need to win their next two ties if want to book a spot in next year's World Group.

The Swiss Ace has played a total of 48 Davis Cup ties with a win-loss record of 37-11. His best result came in 2003 when Switzerland reached the semifinals and lost against a powerful Australian team led by Lleyton Hewitt and Mark Philippoussis.
