Third-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland earned a came from behind victory over Belgian qualifier David Goffin with a 5-7 7-5 6-2 6-4 scoreline and secured his berth in the quarter-finals on Sunday, here at Roland Garros. Goffin gave his best shot as he looked absolutely assured in his shot-selection and impressed everyone with his spirited performance. But, in the end, he could not match-up with Federer’s class and precision and lost the battle in four sets.
In the first-set, Goffin surprised Federer by his focussed play. The Belgian never looked unsure about his shot-selection in the first set and he got the breakthrough, just at the right time to win it. The big difference was unforced errors, as Federer committed 17 unforced errors as compared to Goffin's 6. The Belgian also hammered 15 winners and mustered 86% points on his first serve to win the first set in 47 minutes.

After 48 minutes of play in the second-set, Federer earned the equalizer. The Swiss understood the gravity of the situation very well and played his very best tennis to thwart the tremendous challenge of Goffin, who was playing like a fully confident contender and asking all sorts of probing question - with his well executed shots.
Relentless Federer took only 29 minutes to wrap-up the third-set. The Swiss opted for counter-attack from the beginning of the third-set and broke the Belgian twice to win it comfortably. The Swiss did not allow the Belgian to fare well in long rallies by creating difficult angles from the deep end of the court and easily succeeded in his ploy. The trend continued in the fourth-set and Federer won it comfortably to sail home.
In the quarter-final, Federer will take on the winner of the match between Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina.
