Defending champion Roger Federer awaits arch rival Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the 2010 Western and Southern Financial Group masters after registering a dominant straight sets win over Russian Nikolay Davydenko in today's quarterfinal match.

Federer opened the match on a competitive note and managed to clinch a break in the last game to close the opening set in his favour by 6 games to 4. The second set brought more success for the Swiss as he raced to a formidable 3-0 lead. Davydenko, however, refused to go down so easily and broke the Swiss back get back on level terms at 5-5. At 5-6 though, a fatal mistake cost the Russian the serve and the match and Federer completed the 6-4, 7-5 win in one hour and 39 minutes of play.
Federer now meets the winner of the match between Rafael Nadal and Marcos Baghdatis, who start play soon.
