Federer, Serena claim top honours at 2010 ESPY Awards
Five of the brightest tennis players in the current circuit were awarded the 2010 ESPY Awards in various categories in a gala event that took place at the famous Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.

Tennis stars Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Kim Clijsters, Nicolas Mahut and John Isner emerged victorious at the just concluded ESPY Awards being held at the Nokia  Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Williams, who claimed her 13th major title earlier this month was adjudged the best Female Tennis Player of the year. This is Serena's fourth Best Female Tennis Player award and fifth overall, which include the top most 'Athlete of the Year' honours for the 2002-03 season. Williams edged sister Venus and Kim Clijsters for the Female Tennis player of the Year award this year. Williams was also nominated for the Athlete of the Year award but lost the race to Skiing champion Lindsey Vonn.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer bagged the Male Tennis Player of the year award for his phenomenal success that includes a record 16th major crown in Australia in January this year. Federer beat Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro as the other two nominees in the same category.

Belgian Kim Clijsters became the 2010 Comeback player of the Year winner for claiming the U.S. Open Championship as the only unranked player in the history of the game. Clijsters continued her astonishing run with two more titles this year in Brisbane and Miami, where she beat Venus Williams in the final.

Despite, Federer and Serena's hegemony at the Awards function, American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut stole the limelight by the virtue of their momentous performance at this year's Championships at Wimbledon. Their marathon match won the Best Record Breaking Performance of the year award with nominees including Usain Bolt (100 and 200 meter World Records) and Roger Federer (record 16th major triumph).

I know Nadal won only one Grand slams title in 2010. It is only Roland Garros! cos he showed his dirty attitude in 3rd round of Wimby! Haha I really hate dirty liar Nadal! Tennis doesn't need such liar! Roger I love both of your sport spirit and your personality! you are simply the best Roger always support you and love you my dear Roger!

Begun by cable sports channel ESPN in 1993 the annual ESPY Awards allows sports fans worldwide to join in an online vote for their favorites in such categories as Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete, Best Coach/Manager, and Team of the Year. Unlike most awards shows, the ESPYs are probably most noted for its contribution to charity, as a portion of the proceeds is donated to The V Foundation, named for its founder, Jim Valvano. Roger Federer deservedly won the Male Tennis Player of the year award for his phenomenal success that includes a record 16th major crown in Australia in January this year. CONGRATS Roger!!

It is a close contest. After all Fedex was number 1 for most of the year! It could have gone either way. What are these ESPY rewards anyway? Are they material?
