The 2010 Family Circle Cup brings with it a chance for title glory for many top ten players in the absence of the Williams sisters and the Belgians. Despite the fact that the WTA circuit today revolves around these four superstars, there are occasional victory celebrations by players like Jelena Jankovic and Caroline Wozniacki, who have been granted the top two seeds here in Charleston.
A mere look at the draw confirms the fact that the top seed gets a comfortable road to the final, of course in the absence of any unusual upset. Wozniacki's first real test may come in the form of Swiss Patty Schnyder. The Dane will possibly set up a quarterfinal clash with an in-form Russian Nadia Petrova.
Victoria Azarenka, who is in the other quarter of this half of the draw can have a possible meeting with the World No.2 which will be a tournament organiser's delight for sure. The Belarusian's only challenge in the draw before the semifinals is another Russian Vera Zvonareva, whom she outclassed at this year's Australian Open pre-quarterfinals.
In the bottom half of the draw, second seed and Indian Wells champion Jelena Jankovic stands tall
despite a possible challenge from leggy Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, who has been granted the eighth seed here.
The other quarter features Miami semifinalist Marion Bartoli, who crushed names like Svetlana Kuznetsova and Yanina Wickmayer before reaching the last four in Sunshine state and Australian dark horse, Samantha Stosur, who is seeded fourth.
The bottom half looks very promising for the second seed whose only big challenge will come in the semifinals where Giant-killer Marion Bartoli may cause some damage at the expense of her swashbuckling form.
The 2009 champion Sabine Lisicki, who caused quite a stir last year when she beat names like Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki en route to title victory, is unable to defend her title as she is sidelined due to a nagging injury.
All in all, a Wozniacki-Jankovic final clash is a strong possibility in Charleston which will give birth to a new tennis rivalry in the form of these two superb champions, who are all set to embrace success in their own unique ways.
