Fourth seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy squares against Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the semi-final match at 2012 St Petersburg Open.

Fognini is currently ranked at No 53 in the world rankings and has 21-19 win loss record this year. His best performance this year came at Bucharest, where he lost in the final against Gilles Simon. He is making his third appearance at this event and failed to progress beyond first round in 2009 and 2010.

His opponent-Gimeno-Traver stands at No 93 in the rankings and has 6-9 win loss record this year. The Spaniard is also playing in his first ATP tour semi-final outside of clay and overall this is the Spaniard’s third career ATP tour semi-final

Both players have met three times before and Fognini leads 2-1 in head to head contest. Last time they met in Valencia in 2011 where Fognini won with 6-4, 6-3 scoreline.
