Top seeded Italian Sara Errani eased past Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of Budapest Grand Prix on Tuesday.
"It was a good start," Errani said. "It's not always easy in the first round but I was enjoying myself out on court and I'm happy I didn't use up too much energy. The courts here are quite slow and I think this is good for my game."
Errani will next face Melinda Czink, who bounced back from first set loss to beat fellow qualifier Mervana Jugic-Salkic 6-7(3), 6-0, 6-3.
Second seeded Ksenia Pervak struggled past Russian Vera Dushevina 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(6) in three sets.
"It was a very tough match and she's a very tough opponent," Pervak said after her three-hour epic. "I know her so well from when we played in Russia together and I'm really happy to get the win as she won quite easily last time we played."
In other matches of the day, Alberta Brianti ousted eighth seeded Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 and Akgul Amanmuradova fended off three match points to beat Michaella Krajicek 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6).
