The Cinderella story continued for home favourite Mariana Duque Marino when she beat tournament's eighth seed Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 6-4, 7-5 to reach the maiden Sony Ericsson WTA Singles final on home soil at the XVIII Copa BBVA Colsanitas, being played here in Bogota, Colombia.
"I'm very happy. I don't know what else to say. I just can't wait until tomorrow!" Duque Marino said. "This is very good for me and for Colombia. I'm very proud to make my first final here. It was a really close match but one of us had to win and it was me. I'm a little tired right now but I will be fine for tomorrow."
In the other semifinal, Argentine Gisela Dulko, the top seed lost to fifth seed and first time Sony Ericsson WTA tour finalist Angelique Kerber, who registered a convincing 7-5, 6-3 win in 86 minutes of play.
"It's my first final on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, so I'm very happy," Kerber said. "I'm hapy to win against Dulko because she's a great player. I had nothing to lose and just tried playing my best on every point. I fought until the end. It has been a great tournament for me here. It's my first time here and I like Bogotá a lot. The people have been supporting me really well."
