World No 1 Novak Djokovic defeated World No. 44 Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-1, 6-4 to start his 2012 Monte Carlo Masters campaign with a win on Wednesday.
Djokovic stepped on the pedal from the word 'go' and never allowed Seppi to settle in the middle. The Serbian broke Seppi early at 2-0 and then for the second time at 4-0. Djokovic faced no real threat in the first set and closed it 6-1. He fired 2 aces in it and converted all three break point opportunities he got in his way.
Djokovic continued with the momentum in the second set also and broke Seppi at 2-1 in the set. He kept the break till the end to close the match in straight sets.
Djokovic will next face Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine, who prevailed 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 against Aussie Bernard Tomic.
Also, Frenchman Gilles Simon eased past Frederico Gil of Portugal 6-3, 6-0.
