Djokovic passes Ukrainian test, Tipsarevic beats 2003 finalist Ferrero
Where top seed Novak Djokovic was tested by Alexandr Dolgopolov, Tipsarevic made a statement with his four set win over 2003 finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2011 US Open.

Two time finalist Novak Djokovic continued his winning run with a nail-biting victory over Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov to reach the quarterfinals of the 2011 US Open, season's last Grand Slam event being played here at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA.

Djokovic won the opening set in a marathon tie-break which ended with a 16-14 scoreline. After trading breaks initially, Djokovic pushed the set into the tie-break, where he recovered from a 0-4 deficit to eventually save a series of set points against him. As Dolgopolov hit his 20th unforced error, Djokovic raised his arm in relief and took a headstart into the encounter.

Continuing to bask in the glory of opening set success, Djokovic soon secured a double break, and managed to maintain one of them to eventually wrap up the second set 6-4.

The decider turned out to be a lopsided affair as Djokovic reeled off a series of games to complete the 7-6(14), 6-4, 6-2 win in two hours and 26 minutes of play.

Djokovic hit a Djokovic hit just 13 winners to 25 from Dolgopolov, but also capitalised on the 44 unforced errors committed by the Ukrainian star to seal the deal. Djokovic is a two time former finalist at the US Open, losing the championship match in 2007 to Roger Federer and 2010 to Rafael Nadal.

Earlier today, another Serbian in the draw, Janko Tipsarevic made waves with his power packed performance when he battled past 2003 finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2 to secure his last eight berth.
