Second seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic made a less-than-perfect start to his opening round match at the 2010 Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships, being played here in the desert city of Dubai, UAE.

The Serbian started the match on a good note and pocketed a quick break for a 2-0 lead. However, with an immediate break-back, Garcia-Lopez levelled the opener. The decisive break came in the tenth game when Djokovic took the opening set 6-4.
The second set saw Djokovic break Garcia-Lopez twice to race to a 5-0 lead, just to be broken back right away. At 4-5 though, Garcia-Lopez failed to make a comeback and lost the 6-4, 6-4 match to bow out of the event.
In another exciting match, Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis took out eighth seed Gilles Simon 7-6(3), 6-4 to make it to the next round. The mighty Cypriot fired 14 aces en-route to the straight sets victory.

Other winners of the day included Viktor Troicki, Ivan Ljubicic, Stefan Koubek and Jurgen Melzer, who all registered contrasting wins over their respective opponents to move ahead in the draw.
