Second seed and one of the strongest contendors for this year's title, Serbian Novak Djokovic breezed through his opening round match at the 2009 China Open, being played here in Beijing China, with an impressive win over Romanian Victor Hanescu.
Djokovic, who is a tour leader in terms of match win-loss record of 59-27 is attempting win his first big title since his triumph in Dubai earlier this year. Djokovic, who lost the finals of 5 masters series events this year is quite hopeful of breaking the jinx or so it seems from his performance today as the Serbian superstar took just under 90 minutes to complete a 6-3, 7-5 win over Hanescu.
Djokovic was later joined by Eighth seed Marin Cilic, who withstood the challenge of Russian Igor Andreev in winning the 6-4, 6-4 match after little struggle.
Germany's No.1 Philipp Kohlschreiber was made to struggle hard by Ace-Machine Ivo Karlovic before registering a 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-1 win in almost two hours of play.
Other notable winners of the day included Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who took out Benjamin Becker in straight sets, compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero, who struggled past Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 7-6(3) and Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who spent little time on court to dispatch Brazilian Marcos Daniel to reach the next round.
