Playing his first match at 2012 Madrid Open on blue clay, defending champion Novak Djokovic looked in a bit discomfort but managed to post a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Spaniard Daniel Gimeno Traver in the second round of Madrid Open 2012.
Djokovic drew the first blood at 3-1 in the first set of the match and broke the Spaniard for another time while he was serving to stay in the set and won it by 6-3 scoreline. However in the second set Djokovic went off the boil and got himself broken twice to allow the Spaniard level the match scores at 1-1.

In the deciding set, Djokovic got a break at 4-2 scoreline and kept it till the end to close the set 6-3.
In another anticipated first round match of the day, upcoming Canadian Milos Raonic defeated Argentine veteran David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-4.
Earlier in the day, Aussie Bernard Tomic got upset by Czech Radek Stepanek 6-2, 7-5 in another first round encounter.
