Djokovic opened the match on a competitive note and lost his serve in the third game to let Monfils take control momentarily. A break back followed in the eighth game after which the set went into the tie-break which Djokovic dominated by the virtue of a series of unforced errors by the Frenchman to seal it by 7 points to 2.
The second set witnessed 5 breaks of serves, 4 of which went in Djokovic's favour, thereby helping him race to a formidable two sets to love lead. Monfils looked completely off form and made a lot of mistakes, especially off forehand to give Djokovic a perfect start to the third set as well. With the help of a break in the fourth and the eighth game then, the Serbian star completed the 7-6(2), 6-1, 6-2 victory in two hours and 24 minutes of play.
Djokovic hit a total of 38 winners to Monfils' 17 and took full advantage of the 50 unforced errors committed by the Frenchman to complete the straight sets win.
Djokovic now plays the winner of the match between five time champion Roger Federer and his conquerer at Roland Garros this year, Robin Soderling, who sizzle in the night session's last match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
