Djokovic, Chiudinelli win openers in Basel

World No 3 Novak Djokovic edged past Andreas Beck of Germany 6-3 7-5 to advance into the second round of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel.
The Serbian fired ten aces to set up next clash wih Jan Hernych of Czech Republic, who beat Australian qualifier Peter Luczak 6-3 6-4.
“I think for the first match I played quite well," said Djokovic. "I think the surface is good. My strokes were very solid today."
Localite Marco Chiudinelli, a wild card entrant, battled past eighth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(5) 3-6 7-5 to reach into the next round.
"It's great to have some success at home in Basel," said Chiudinelli, "It was a tough match. "But I'm very fit right now and it hasn't been that way for me during the last two years here."
In the remaining match of the day, Swiss qualifier Michael Lammer prevailed 3-6 6-2 7-5 against Austrian Daniel Koellerer.
