Four time champion Spain booked their place in the last eight of the 2010 Davis Cup when Spanish hero David Ferrer registered an emphatic win over Swiss star Stanislas Wawrinka.
Ferrer looked in supreme form from the very beginning and wasted little time in pocketing the opening set with the help of two breaks. The second set saw a temporary shift in momentum when Wawrinka raced to a 4-1 lead, only to watch Ferrer reel off eleven games in a row to complete the 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Spain had already secured a 2-1 lead, coming into the third day of the tie with Davis Cup debutant Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo clinching the crucial doubles tie for the host nation. The triumph today ensured the place in quarterfinals for the defending champions.
