The second day at the Chennai Open saw an eagerly awaited match between top seed Nikolay Davydenko and Austrian Daniel Koellerer, with top seed expectantly winning 6-3, 6-2 in little over an hour. The Russian next faces Lucas Dlouhy. In another exciting result from the Open , local favorite Somdev Devvarman registered the most significant victory of his career by dismantling the challenge of American Kevin Kim. The Indian No. 1 never looked in trouble and closed the deal with a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline. He next faces two time champion and another crowd favorite Carlos Moya, who struggled past Thailand's Danai Udomchoke, winning 6-4, 7-6(4). Among other winners during the day were fourth seed Ivo Karlovic who got past Rajeev Ram of USA 6-4, 6-3, seventh seed Tipsarevic who defeated Spanish Pablo Andujar 6-3, 6-2 and Flavio Cipolla who caused a major upset by knocking out second seed and Olympic doubles champion Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland. And finally Uzbek Denis Istomin dashed local hopes by defeating Rohan Bopanna after disposing a tough challenge in the second set to register a 6-4, 7-6(3) win.
In the only doubles matches of the day, Spanish duo of Marcel Granollers and Santiago Ventura beat fellow countrymen Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo 6-4, 6-2 and Dutch-Croat duo of Rogier Wassen and Lovro Zovko edged past Alberto Martin of Spain who was partnering Dudi Sela of Israel. The duo won 6-3, 6-1 in just 41 minutes.
Wednesday line-up of matches promises some exciting clashes with both the top seeds left in the draw, in action.
