David Ferrer is ranked number 5 in the world. On the other hand, Vasek Pospisil is ranked 133 among ATP rankings.
Ferrer has been taking care of his wins on all major stages this year. He started the year with a title in Auckland and a semi-final performance at the Australian Open. He later went on to take the title at Acapulco and then followed it with a quarterfinal performance in Miami. After a final loss to Rafael Nadal in Barcelona and a spot among the last eight in Madrid, he posted a run till the final at Bastad and recently in Shanghai in between which he made to the semi-finals at Tokyo too. He will be trying his best to make it to the finals at this event too.
Pospisil has been playing extensively on the ITF tour this year making to the semi-finals of a few Challengers and winning the title at Canada and Korea too. He has been trying his best to venture into the ATP and churn out some impressive results and has done just that at this event. He has managed to qualify and then pulled a magnificent three set upset against marathon man, John Isner to set up a second round clash against Ferrer.
Both the players have never met before and this is the first time that they will be playing each other. Ferrer is known for his precision filled forehands and make the most of his lightening movement around court. On the other hand Pospisil can smack cannon serve and come up with consistent backhands and sharp volleys on crucial points in the match. Ferrer should be able to come through in a two tight sets.
