David Ferrer ensured that Barcelona Open will have a Spanish winner as he defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets 7-6(2), 7-6(5) in just over 2 hours to progress in the finals.
After a very close first set, it was Ferrer who prevailed in an hour and seven minutes! He saved a few set points and lost a few before prevailing in the first set tie break. He raised the game when it really mattered and forced Raonic to go for more. With the set being equally poised, Ferrer won 52 points as compared to Raonic's, indicating how well Ferrer played the tie break. Ferrer leads 1 set to love.
The second set was also a closer affair with the set going into a tie-break, but it was Ferrer who raised the bar again and fought back to win the set and the match with a beautiful backhand down the line pass.
He now awaits the winner of the all Spanish clash between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco.
