Daniela Hantuchova opened the season with a place in the final at Brisbane, reached QF at Sydney and then 3rd at Australian Open. She won her fifth WTA title at Pattaya City and made into the quarter-finals at Dubai. At Indian Wells and Miami, she fell early and withdrew from Stuttgart because of a foot injury. She skipped Roland Garros because of the injury and fell in the first round of Wimbledon. Last week also, she lost in the opening round at Rogers Cup.
Her opponent today - German Mona Barthel started the year with a bang as she won her first WTA title at Hobart, which helped her to crack into the top 50 rankings for the first time in the career. She then reached the third round at Austrlian Open and quarter-finals of Paris Indoors. In March, she fell early in Indian Wells and Miami but bounced back strongly with quarterfinal performances in Copenhagen and Stuttgart.
Since then the German failed to maintain any consistency on tour as she lost in the 1st round of Roland Garros, Wimbledon and then Olympics. Curently she is placed at No 37 and has 32-19 win loss record this year.
This will be the first meeting between the two players.
