Qualifier Daniel Brands continued his dream run at the Qatar Open after he cruised past Frenchman Gael Monfils in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 in just over an hour. With this victory the German booked a place in the semi-finals.
Brands started the match superbly, taking the opening set in 25 minutes. The German took full advantage of a visibly struggling Monfils as he smacked 9 winners and broke the Frenchman's serve twice on two given opportunities. Monfils on the other hand was rustic too, hitting 10 unforced errors.

The second set was a well contested with Monfils racing to a 3-0 lead. But it was Brands who came back with vengeance, breaking the Frenchman’s serve twice in the latter stages of the second set to successfully serve out the match at 7-5.
