After solid opening day singles rubber wins over Ecuador, the Croatian pair of Marin Cilic and Ivo Karlovic beat the brother duo of Nicolas and Giovanni Lapentti 7-6(3), 6-3, 7-5 to help their country reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 Davis Cup.
The Croatian team was later joined by 2009 finalists Czech Republic, who reached the quarterfinals when they claimed win over the Belgians. After the opening singles rubber wins yesterday featuring Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek as victors, the same duo overcame the Belgian team of Steve Darcis and Olivier Rochus 7-6(0), 6-0, 6-3 to complete the 3-0 trumph.
In another tussle, India managed to remain in contention in the tie against Russia, when star Indian duo and multiple Grand Slam champions Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi handily took out Russians Teimuraz Gabashvili and Igor Kunitsyn 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
