Former world no. 4 American James Blake subdued Leonardo Mayer of Argentina with a 6-1 6-4 on Tuesday in the first-round of the Farmers Classic being played here in Los Angeles.
Currently, Blake is ranked no. 117 in ATP rankings, as he had been struggling with a string of injuries for the last two years.
After the match, Blake quoted, “I’m really happy with the way I played. After teaming up with Sam Querrey in a night doubles match, Blake said, “I went into the match with the goal of just controlling my side of the court and playing with the right kind of energy. I’m back to feeling healthy and I want to just play that way without the huge expectations or anything, just playing my game. I did it and it worked out well today.”
The other winners of day are: Robby Ginepri of the United States, who beat Serbian Ilija Bozoljack with a 6-3 6-4 scoreline; American Ryan Sweeting rallied past Kristof Vliegen of Belgium with a 2-6 6-3 6-4 scoreline; Somdev Devvarman of India beat American Steve Johnson with a 6-4 6-4 scoreline. In the late match, South African Kevin Anderson defeated Illya Marchenko of the Ukraine with a 6-3 6-2 scoreline.
