Clijsters opened the match on a good note and broke Peers' serve in the second game. However, with a quick trade of serves, not once but twice, the Australian star showed her intentions about the match. Once Clijsters had a decisive break for 4-2, she never looked back and continued the dominant play in the second set as well to complete the 6-2, 6-1 win in little under an hour.
Earlier today, American and two time former champion Venus Williams survived a tough opening set to record a convincing 7-6(3), 6-1 win over rising Canadian star Rebecca Marino. Williams was joined by 2004 finalist, Russian Elena Dementieva, who took out Austrian Sybille Bammer 6-3, 6-4 to enter the third round.
Other winners of the day included French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, the losing finalist in Paris, Samantha Stosur, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Petra Kvitova, Virginie Razzano, Flavia Pennetta, Gisela Dulko, Daniela Hantuchova and Alona Bondarenko, who took out last year's story of the tournament - Melanie Oudin.
