The second semifinal at the 2010 Western and Southern Financial Group masters features two of the most unpredictable players in the current circuit pitted against each other. Where Federer will look for an opportunity to settle scores, Baghdatis will leave no stones unturned to repeat his Indian Wells success on American soil once again.
Federer clearly has an advantage in today's match up as he has enjoyed very little amount of time on court with first two matches ending with much ado. Federer showed his tremendous form with a straight sets win over Russian Nikolay Davydenko and as a defending champion closed in on another title. Federer has had a challenging European summer with unexpected losses and early exits. Infact, his last non-slam triumph came here in Cincinnati 12 months ago. With Nadal, Murray and Djokovic already out, this may just be the Swiss' best chance to emulate Agassi's title tally in ATP World Tour 1000 events to 17.
Baghdatis, on the other hand, gave some memorable performances since the Olympus US Open series kicked off earlier this month. After a runner up finish in Washington (to Nalbandian), the man from Cyprus is all set to go a step further, especially after his confidence boosting win over World No.1 Rafael Nadal last night. Baghdatis also scored impressive wins over players like Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic to enter the last four here in Cincy. Finally above everything else, the Cypriot knows what it takes to beat Roger Federer and he will definitely play this card in today's match up.
The contest today is bound to produce swashbuckling tennis, but chances are that Federer will avenge his Indian Wells loss and reach the finals with a convincing win, perhaps in three sets.
