Top seeded Croatian Marin Cilic beat Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets to reach the final of the 2009 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy, being played here in Vienna, Austria.
Cilic, who is into the fourth final of the year after being victorious in two of them already ( Chennai & Zagreb ), took one hour and 38 minutes to post the 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Kohlschreiber.
"Kohlschreiber is not an easy opponent," said Cilic. "He was pretty good in the second set and he always gives a tough battle to everybody. I’m really pleased that I made it to the final."
"I came here with the mind to play well and especially after the Beijing final then also the US Open quarter-final," added Cilic. "I’m really pleased I kept my form on a good level and that over here I played four very good matches."
Cilic's opponent in the final is local favourite Jurgen Melzer, who took out Serbian Janko Tipsarevic in a tight three setter, winning the 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win in almost two hours and 30 minutes of play.
The Austrian found it a bit difficult to express his feelings about being in the final of the home tournament later - "It’s very tough to explain now, but I think when I lie down tomorrow night in my bed I’m going to be pretty happy and proud of myself, with the way I played and the way I have presented myself in Austria. It’s never easy to play at home, it’s a lot of pressure but I dealt with it really well this week and hopefully I can get the title."
