Russian Anna Chakvetadze defeated the local star Polona Hercog with a 0-6 6-2 6-2 in the Slovenia Open on Saturday and reached her first final in two years.
The Russian will meet Sweden’s Johanna Larsson in the final, who advanced to her first WTA final when the Russian Ksenia Pervak retired with a wrist injury while trailing 6-2 1-0 in her semi-final match.
After the match, Chakvetadze said, “I haven’t expected such a success.” She further added “It is a nice reward for my efforts to get back among the best players of the world.”
