Australian teenager Bernard Tomic came as a revelation when he reached the third-round at Aussie Open in 2011. He raised the hopes of every Australian who looked at him as a fitting replacement for aging Lleyton Hewitt. Interestingly, the teenager Australian has certainly shown a lot of potential, but he has not been able to deliver – when he is expected the most. Still in the early phase of his career, Tomic can live up to the ever-soaring expectations of Australian – provided he would be able to maintain a decent consistency on tour.
Today he takes on German Florian Mayer in the first round of the Shanghai Masters. Currently ranked as World No. 43 in the ATP Rankings, Tomic has an ordinary 26-25 win-loss record for the season and he has not won any title yet on tour.
His opponent - Mayer is currently ranked at World No 25 and has poor 22-23 win loss record this year. He has one ATP career title to his name. Last week he reached the semis of China Open and would like to continue with that form here also.
Both players have met two times before and Mayer has won on each occasion.
