In the second quarter-final match at 2012 BMW Open, fifth seeded  Bernard Tomic takes on Italian Potito Starace.

Tomic started off the year well as he reached the semifinals of the season opening Brisbane International in Australia. He did reasonably well at the Australian Open reaching the round of 16 where he was defeated by Roger Federer. Since then however, he has been on a downward spiral and his best result came at Delray Beach where he was ousted by the ever-rising John Isner. His win/loss record this year stands at 14/8. The BMW Open presents him with the opportunity to make a name for himself as he comes in as the fifth seed in this particular tournament.

His opponent Starace comes into the tournament with poor 6-12 win loss record this year. He would hope to get some more wins here.

Both players have met once at Australian Open in 2009 where Tomic won 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(6).
