Berdych struggles in San Jose Opener

On the opening day at the 2010 SAP Open, favourites made it into the next round by producing swashbuckling tennis.
The fifth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych had been tested dearly by American Wayne Odesnik in their night session clash before registering a hard fought 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 win.
Earlier, American Taylor Dent defeated his countryman Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-4, 7-6(2) in first-round at the 2010 SAP Open, being played here in San Jose, USA. In another match, Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen defeated German wild card entrant Lars Poerschke 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted one hour and 40 minutes in play. Uzbek Denis Istomin defeated wild card entrant Ryan Harrison with a 6-2, 7-5 score line.
Other winners of the day included Dudi Sela and Leonardo Mayer, who registered contrasting wins over their respective opponents to move ahead in the draw.
