In an interesting development, three Top 10 players will play in the Power Horse World Team Cup, to be played at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf from 20-26 May. World No. 7 Tomas Berdych takes care of Czech Republic’s campaign, while No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic spearheads the Serbian onslaught and No. 9 Mardy Fish features for the United States. In fact, Mardy Fish is joined on the American team by former World No. 1 and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick, who is playing in Dusseldorf for the first time since 2006.
Host nation Germany is the defending champion at this team event. Germany won a record fifth title last year. This year the German team will be represented by Florian Mayer, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Philipp Petzschner. "Last year’s Power Horse World Team Cup win was, together with my season’s highlight when I won the ATP tournament in Halle, my second major success in 2011," asserted Petzschner. "I always love playing in Düsseldorf with the team. We want to repeat last season’s great performance and defend our title successfully. It certainly won’t be easy in such a high class field but we’ll do our best."
Tournament Director Dietloff von Arnim quoted, "We’re looking forward to welcoming the Japanese. Who knows, perhaps it’ll be almost like a home game for them with the large Japanese community here in Düsseldorf."
