Marcos Baghdatis ended his four-match losing streak after defeating the American Ryan Sweeting with a 3-6 6-2 6-3 scoreline at the Farmers Classic, being played here at Los Angeles.
After the match, Baghdatis said, “It’s been a long time. I didn’t win a match on grass. It’s been two months I didn’t win a match. It’s a long time. It feels good winning a match, even without playing good. The positive attitude is there which is very important, and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
In the next round, Baghdatis will meet sixth-seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, who defeated Indian Somdev Devvarman with a 7-6(9) 6-2 scoreline, on Wednesday. German veteran Rainer Schuettler defeated American Robby Ginepri with a 6-3 3-6 6-4 scoreline. Schuettler will play no. 2 seed Sam Querrey in the next round.
