Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland won her maiden WTA Tour title at Luxembourg with a 6-2 7-5 victory over sixth-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the final of BGL Luxembourg Open.
"I'm really happy with the way everything went today. I played in a smart way and just went for it. I wasn't nervous at all," said Bacsinszky.
Bacsinszky raced to 4-0 in the first set and closed it 6-2. In the second set, Bacsinszky got the first break of serve at 5-4 and a chance to serve for the title. But Lisicki broke back and levelled at 5-5, however she lost her serve in the very next game.
This time Bacsinszky held her nerves well and served for the victory.
She added "It's great to win my first title. I don't think I've realized what it means for me yet. For now I just want to stay focused because I have another tournament next week."
"Timea played well. My leg was hurting a bit but I still tried to fight. I rushed too much today and I could tell that I was tired from my semifinal," confessed Lisicki. "I didn't take my chances but you can always learn from something like this."
