Azarenka outlasts Kerber in Istanbul
In what was an absolute thriller, it was World No.1 Victoria Azarenka who came out on top as she edged German No.1 Angelique Kerber at the season-ending championships in Istanbul.

World No.1 Victoria Azarenka showed just why she has been the player to beat all year long as she dug deep to overcome a spirited Angelique Kerber who gave the match her all. It was perhaps the match of the season as both players played some stunning tennis, but in the end there can only be one winner and unfortunately for the left handed fifth seed, it was the Belaruian's day today who smashed a massive 45 winners in the match to win the match 6-7(11),7-6(2),6-4 in over three hours.

Angelique Kerber did the impossible in the first set. She saved 5 set points to take the opening set 7-6 after winning the tie break 13-11. The set saw some really high quality of tennis as both the players found their respective highs and lows in the set. The set lasted for just above an hour as Kerber fought back from 2-6 down in the tie-break to eventually reign supreme and take the opening set. The German hit 18 winners and most of them well timed. Both the players broke serve once.

Azarenka took the second set in a tie-breaker, and saved two match points en route to doing so! She does not commit the same errors she did in the previous tie break as the pressure mounted on the German and she finally broke down. The set lasted for 1 hour and 5 minutes as the quality of the match and the rallies did not go down at all. The World No.1 smashed 25 winners in that set.

The third was a fitting finale to the match as it had all the twists and turns of the previous two sets. Azarenka though held her cool this time to win one of the most difficult matches for her in 2012.

It was a great match, you could see the old Vika coming out though with the tantrums.
