Gunning for her second career Grand Slam title, World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus earned a comprehensive 6-2 6-2 victory over Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium and secured her berth in the third-round of the 2012 US Open, this year’s last Grand Slam Tournament, being played here in Flushing Meadows, New York. Started off from where she left in the last match and continued in the same manner to muster an easy victory in the end – Azarenka never allowed her opponent Flipkens to maintain any sort of momentum throughout the match.
With double-break of serve, the World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka won the first set. Flipkens made a confident start to the match but she failed to pose any serious challenge before the Belarusian – in the first set. Azarenka served well when tested and did not allow the Belgian to maintain any sort of momentum in the first set.
Flipkens did relatively well in the second-set and made a fine progress until she committed two quick errors and gifted away the break to Azarenka in the fifth game. The World No. 1 further escalated the pressure and got another break in the seventh game to take her lead to 5-2 in the second-set. She held on to her serve in the next game and won the match in straight sets.
