Italy’s Sara Errani who showed signs of poor form in the recently concluded Apia International at Sydney and Brisbane International tennis tournament will take on Spaniard Carlo Suarez Navarro at the first round of the 2013 Australian Open at Melbourne.
World No. 7 Errani will meet her Spaniard rival for the sixth time of her career and leads the veteran professional by 3 to 2. The right-handed player last defeated Navarro at the semifinals of the Barcelona Ladies Open in straight sets in just a little more than an hour.
Apart from the pre-Aussie Open hiccups Errani experienced in the last two weeks, the Italian No.1 has had breakthrough season in 2012. Known as a clay-court specialist, she reached the finals at the French Open 2012, and her other Grand Slam achievements from the previous year also includes reaching the US Open semi-finals and the quarter finals of the Aussie Open.
Errani has quite a reputation of positioning herself well and to return serves early which helps her to gain an early advantage if the opponent slacks in responding.
Despite the recent poor show, Errani is still a favourite to win the match against the Spanish starlet.
