Andy Roddick is placed at number 16 in the rankings chart, whereas Tommy Haas is ranked as low as 212 in the world right now.
Roddick has had an injury hit 2011 when he injured his shoulder in Rome. This ruled him out of the tour for some time. He won the title at Memphis beating Milos Raonic in a mouth watering 3 set match. It has been a mixed bag of performances for Roddick as he looks to take on a very experienced Haas in the first round of Basel.
Haas has not played much of singles this year because of his injury. He would be hoping to remain injury free for the rest of the season. He would also be hoping to surprise Roddick with something new. A former world No.2, Tommy is not someone who can easily be pushed aside and keeps many tricks in his bag. His best result of the year has been him reaching the Quarter-Finals of Vienna last week.
Tommy holds an upper hand when it comes to facing Roddick. He holds a 7-5 head to head record against the American No.2. With both the players having plenty of experience, it would be tough to take a call on this one. This match could go to the limit. Roddick would be hoping that his serve helps him sail through this match, whereas Haas would love to stop Roddick from doing this.
