Andy Murray vs. Joao Sousa: Cincinnati Masters Round 2 Preview
After wasting multiple chances against eventual champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Toronto, Super Scot Andy Murray will look to make a steady start at the Western & Southern Open here in Cincinnati on Wednesday. Will he succeed in notching up a straight forward victory over Joao Sousa of Portugal on the day?

Former two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has shown glimpses of his top form in recent times, but has been let down by the levels of his consistency as after a string of superb performances, he went down tamely to Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon and last week in Ontario, he blew a 3-0 lead against the powerful Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final set of their quarter-final encounter.

However, Cincinnati has been a happy hunting ground for Andy in the past as he has won trophies here in the past, back in 2008 and 2011 and hasn’t been beaten in round 2 or earlier since 2007. Last year, his campaign was brought to an abrupt end by the towering Czech Tomas Berdych in the quarters. Still, the Glaswegian should be happy about his section of the draw as until the last 8 where he is scheduled to take on Roger Federer, he has got a pretty easy road.

Meanwhile, Joao Sousa sneaked into the 2nd round with a battling 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-6(5) victory over qualifier Chase Buchanan on Tuesday. The current World No.37 who became the first Portuguese male to win an ATP Tour level title when he won the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur in 2013 reached the final of the tournament in Bastad and semis in Den Bosch in the present season. Last week in Canada, he was completely outplayed by Ernests Gulbis in round 1.

Head-to-Head: Murray has a 2-0 lead over Sousa courtesy of his two easy wins at the Australian Open in 2013 and in Acapulco this year. Once more, he will enter this match as the overwhelming favorite because he is getting better and better by each passing day. Also, he has too much fire power in his game and that would allow him to dictate the proceedings in this match.
