Andy Murray was in some really impressive form when he overcame a stiff challenge with rather ease, as he brushed aside the Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in exactly 2 hours to move into the last 8 of the US Open. It was a routine victory for Murray, who took all the opportunities as they came by to serve out the match successfully.
Andy Murray took the first set with a single break going in his favor. After playing some brilliant tennis in till the eighth game, it was Raonic who cracked first, who handed Murray the break and lose the set. Murray hit 8 winners as compared to Raonic's 16 but was helped a lot by the 11 unforced errors that came from the Canadian's corner.
The second set was also a similar story, 1 break was all that Murray needed to wrap things up and take a two sets to love lead. Raonic’s strategy of cutting the points short by coming to the net worked against him as Murray kept nailing the passing shots with rather ease. The set last for 47 minutes and Murray was more aggressive than he was in the first, hitting 13 winners.
Murray did not relax a bit and came out all guns blazing in the third, hinting he was in a hurry to finish this match. He broke the Raonic serve twice in the third set as he hit 10 winners to close out the match after serving it out with a good out-wide serve. The most impressive part about Murray’s serve was that he did not face a single break point in the match, stating how effective his serve was.
He next faces Marin Cilic for a place in the last 4.
