Andy Murray gets ready to play the quarter-final of the Barcelona Open but has a dangerous opponent today when he faces Canadian Milos Raonic.
Murray, fresh from the loss to Tomas Berdych at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, would be looking to get himself further into the tournament and do justice to the seeding he has been given here. With a 19-5 win-loss record in 2012, the World No.4 is has added certain new strokes to his bag of weapons and has been mixing his game very well. He is also gunning to win his second title of the season as he looks to overtake Roger Federer for the No.3 spot. His thumping victory in the previous round must have sent a message to all the players that he is not a pushover on clay.
He faces eleventh-seeded Raonic, who is chasing his third title of the season. The twenty one year old Raonic has a good 17-4 win-loss record for the season and he is bidding for his fourth career title. Many hailed this young Canadian as the next prodigy of tennis, as he has been improving with every tournament. Currently ranked as World No.25 in the ATP Rankings, but the way he has been playing of late, this Canadian can certainly break into Top 10 – by the end of this season. His victory over Nicolas Almagro has proved that he is not only a one-dimensional player, who is only good on the faster courts.
It will be interesting to see what game plan does Murray adopt as he prepares himself to play a totally different opponent in Raonic, who is not a counter puncher by nature as compared to Murray's previous rounds opponents. Raonic on the other hand would be aiming to upset the second seed and progress further.
This is the first meeting between the two as their previous scheduled match was abandoned when Raonic withdrew from the match with an injury.
