Top seed Pablo Andujar of Spain bounced back from first set down to beat Filippo Volandri 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the 2012 Serbia Open, Belgrade and booked his place in the quarter-finals.
"It was a difficult match for me," said Andujar. "The conditions weren’t easy, the court was very fast and it was hot, which made it a little bit more difficult. "
He added "Always in your first match you have to try and stay as focussed as you can; it’s never going to be easy. I was down 6-4, 5-4 and I tried to continue playing my game and finally I made it and I’m really happy for that."
Andujar will next face Czech Lukas Rosol, who downed Romania’s Victor Hanescu 7-6(4), 6-3.
Also, Benoit Paire of France defeated Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 in 2 hours and 24 minutes.
