Coming fresh off title victory at Dubai WTA Premier Tournament, top-seeded and World No. 5 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland earned a straight sets 6-2 6-4 victory over World No. 118 Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in her opening encounter of the 2012 Malaysian Open on Wednesday and secured her berth in the second-round of this WTA International tournament, being played here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Radwanska won Dubai WTA Premier Tournament last week and now she is looking forward to claim back-to-back WTA titles on tour. Now, Radwanska will take on Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic to secure her berth in the quarter-finals.
Radwanska made an impressive start this season as she reached last eight in Sydney International and then followed it up with a quarterfinal performance at the Australian Open by the virtue of which she reached a career best ranking of number 6. She looked in a superb form at Qatar Open, where she reached the semi-finals. The Pole won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships last week, when she beat Julia Goerges 7-5, 6-4. With that victory, Radwanska also jumped to a new career high rank of No.5 in the World. The Pole is bidding for her 9th WTA career title on tour.
Radwanska’s opponent Karolina Pliskova is ranked 139 in the WTA Rankings. The nineteen years old Czech has a good 11-3 win-loss record for the season so far, but she has not won any WTA title yet. Pliskova ousted in the opening round at Auckland and then she failed to qualify for the Aussie Open – this season. In her last round match here in Malaysia, Pliskova beat Kai-chen Chang of Chinese Taipei in straight sets with a 6-3 6-2 scoreline.
This will be a first meeting between these two contenders and in-form Radwanska is crushing favourite to win this duel.
