Top seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska came through a really sloppy performance to outperform Sloane Stephens in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in just under 2 hours to reach her thirteenth quarter final of the year.
Radwanska won the first set after 22 minutes of some flawless tennis. With 1 unforced error and 4 winners, the Pole was greatly helped by the 11 unforced errors by the American. It seemed like Stephens was to nervous from the start and only went for winners which did not work in her favor.
As the match swung like a pendulum, Stephens surprised everyone by taking the second set 6-4. Stephens kept going for her shots and they all were falling in as a rather defensive Radwanska was left stunned. Though Stephens took a 4-0 lead in the set, she saw it slip when in the ninth game Radwanska broke to get the set back on serve, only to see Stephens break her in the very next game and take the set. The set lasted for 44 minutes with Stephens hitting 14 winners and breaking the Radwanska serve thrice.
The final set was the closest one with a lot of breaks in the final set. Both players were on the receiving end on their serves but it was Radwanska who reigned supreme in the final set to finish a really average performance according to her standards.
