Pole Agnieszka Radwanska reached the quarter finals of the Rogers Cup after cruising past Chanelle Scheepers in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in 1 hour and 34 minutes. If Radwanska goes on to win the title, she will become the NEW World No.1.
In 34 minutes, Radwasnka won the first set 6-2. After a slow start to the match, the Pole gained momentum as she steamrolled her South African opponent without much trouble. With 3 breaks going in favor of Radwanska, the Pole kept exerting pressure on Scheepers, who succumbed to the pressure. Long rallies were a regular part of the set as both players had their chances but Radwanska turned out to be the more consistent one.
The second set was far more competent with Scheepers taking a 4-2 lead only to see Radwanska fight back and reel 4 games on the trot to take the set and the match. Scheepers played the second set very well and started it positively, but Radwanska was too strong for her as the Pole’s counterpunching abilities were a bit too much for Scheeper to handle.
Radwanksa next faces Na Li for a place in the last 4.
