In a match between two BIG servers, defending Champion and World No.4 Petra Kvitova keeps her title defense hopes alive at The Championships as she prepares to face a stiff test in the form of American Serena Williams for a place in the last 4.
Kvitova comes into this tournament with some really high expectations as she is the defending champion here. Her hard hitting game is perfectly suited for these courts as the ball skids through. Though 2012 has not gone according to plan for Kvitova, she would be looking to win her first title this year and her second Grand Slam title. The south paw has a dismal 22-9 win-loss record this year and she would be looking to make it better. Her big, hard serves are her strength and her deadly forehand helps her deliver some decisive blows. She has not been in the best of forms coming into this match and has been tested a lot throughout. Her previous round three set victory proved that she is here to stay and would play her heart to lift the title for the second straight year.
On the opposite side of the court, four time Wimbledon Champion Serena is currently ranked as World No.6 in the WTA Rankings, Serena has had her share of bad injuries in her career. She had to miss out a full WTA season due to a foot injury. But as the American has done over the years, she made a fantastic comeback in the ongoing season and has a very good 30-3 win-loss record this year so far. She has also claimed 2 titles so far in this season. She, like Kvitova has struggled in her previous rounds and was stretched to the limit in her previous two matches. But Serena used all her experience to conquer her opponents to enter this round.
Both the players would be knowing that this would not be an easy match and both need to serve really well to reign supreme. The two have been on the opposite sides of the court twice with Serena winning both the matches. Their last meeting came here at Wimbledon, where Williams prevailed in straight sets.
