Former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia will take on crowd-favorite and World No. 55 Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada in a second-round encounter of the 2012 Rogers Cup, a WTA Premier Event being played here in Toronto.
After struggling badly to find some decent form in the last season, former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic made a fine start to the new season, as she finished in the fourth-round at the Aussie Open and also reached the semis in Kuala Lumpur. The Serbian failed to maintain that form afterwards and fell in the second-round at Roland Garros. Woes continued for the Serbian on grass too, as she lost in the opening round at Wimbledon. Jankovic could not re-ignite her magic on tour after that and now she must be hoping to turn the tide in her favor at the Rogers Cup.
Jankovic’s opponent is twenty four years old Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada, who is currently ranked as World No. 55 in the WTA Rankings. The Canadian is gunning for her second WTA career title but has a poor 28-16 win-loss record this year so far. Though, the Serbian looks heavy favorite in this duel, the Canadian will get a tremendous crowd support and that can work in her favor.
In head-to-head, Jankovic apparently leads with 4-0 against the Canadian. Last time they met in 2010 at Wimbledon second-round, where Jankovic rallied past the Canadian in three sets.
