Former World No.1 and three time Wimbledon finalist – Andy Roddick is set to lock horns with Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the Western & Southern Open here today.
Andy Roddick knows exactly how to win here at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, having already lifted the trophy back in 2003. That win however came a long time ago, and Roddick was in his prime back then. Andy is fully aware that his glory days are past him, but his ability to fight and his passion for the sport are unquestionable. His year hasn't been the greatest, but this is his turf and anyone who takes him lightly could find himself in trouble. The big serving right hander has a win-loss record of 19-13 this year.
Chardy, on the other hand is ranked in the Top -50 at 47 and has had an average win-loss record of 17-15 this year. He has failed to reach deep into a tournament and would be hoping to accumulate points along with some good match practice prior to the US Open. His three set victory over American Donald Young in the Rogers Cup proved that he has the will to win matches but would be anticipating a tough.
The two have played each other thrice and their last match came as recently as June this year, with Roddick coming out on top. The American has also won the previous two meetings between these two.
TennisEarth picks a hard fought win for the American over the in-form Frenchman.
