Last year's finalist Justine Henin is desperate and determined to get a step further in Melbourne this year as she opens her bid for the second Australian Open singles title with a match up against Indian Ace Sania Mirza.
Henin received the WTA comeback player of the year award for her illustrious return to competitive tennis last year which included a runner up finish in Melbourne and two more singles titles in Stuttgart and 's-Hertogenbosch to finish the season in top 20.
Her opponent, India's Sania Mirza remained sidelined due to injuries or controversies surrounding her marriage to Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malik. Her only remarkable run came in Guangzhou where she reached the quarterfinals. Mirza's best Australian Open performance came in the year 2005 when she reached the third round.
This is a first meeting between both players and Henin, with the help of her solid results in Perth this year at the Hopman's Cup, is likely to emerge victorious in straight sets.
TennisEarth.com's Pick - Henin in straight sets.
