The American former world number one, Venus Williams will be venturing into US Open after her absence at the warm up tournaments in the USA before the year's last Slam.She had a easy first round match against Roberta Vinci in the first round. Venus will be wanting to improve her performance from last year where she lost in the round of 16 against Kim Clijsters. She will be playing Rebecca Marino from Canada in the second round. Williams is seeded number 3 in the tournament and stands at number 4 in the WTA rankings. Marino is ranked at 179 in the WTA world rankings.

Venus had recorded one of the best victories and has performed to her best standards in almost all the Grand Slams in the past. Venus would be looking forward to her performance in this Grand Slam as she would try to win it one more time. Venus Williams has a good win/loss record this year which stands at 33/6. Alongside Marino will be looking for more wins as her win/loss record is 17/18 this year.
