The calm and content American, Sam Querrey has been considerably well, but has not been recording as many wins during this year's US season. He was unable to go beyond the round of 32 in the tournament held in Cincinnati as he lost to David Ferrer within two sets. But, he has been displaying some promising quality of matchplay at the US Open. He has lost only one set on the way to the fourth round. He impressed his fans when he defeated 14th seed Nicolas Almagro in straight sets to win his third round match. He will be facing Stansilas Wawrinka in the fourth round.
Wawrinka has always been an aggressive player who goes for his strokes whenever possible. He has not been getting as much what he has put in the sport. Wawrinka has been struggling to record upsets in the recent past, but has stunned the world by coming up with a magnificent win against 4th seed Andy Murray and make place for himself in the fourth round. He went through tiebreak sets against the Scot and has proved that he can withstand the pressure of a Grand Slam tiebreaker.
Querrey has always maintained his ATP world rankings which stands at number 22. He has been seeded at number 20 in the tournament. Wawrinka is ranked among 27 in ATP singles ranking and is seeded at number 25 in the tournament.
Both the players have played each other once in the past and Querrey leads the head-to-head count by 1-0. The last time they met was at Indian Wells in 2009 where Querrey recorded a win after battling through three tough sets. This tournament remains vital for Querrey as a thumping performance here will help him evaluate himself among the top ten of the World. Querrey has a win/loss record of 35/18 this year. Wawrinka has played less number of matches compared to the American and has a win/loss record of 26/13 this year.
Qerrey has his serve to support him whenever needed and he can make his serve more effective with his swinging forehands and tactical volleys. Wawrinka can also use his serve as a demolishing weapon in the match as he will definately combine it with his forehand to take easy points. A break of serve will be crucial and can decide the course of the match. With the players' capabilities a four set match is very well on the cards.
